In the face of ever-changing social, political, and technological dynamics, Indonesia is at a critical crossroads in its history. The ongoing process of democratic consolidation since the Reformation era has presented various complex challenges, one of which is the transition crisis that has not yet been fully resolved. Indonesian democracy is also currently facing the threat of economic oligarchy that is increasingly strengthening its grip on various sectors of people's lives. Amid these changes, political power and morality continue to be a relevant debate. Niccolo Machiavelli's thoughts on the relationship between politics and morality provide a critical lens for assessing how power is held and exercised, including in areas such as Dompu, which continues to be overshadowed by the desire for power that often overrides the interests of the people.
